Abstract

The use of smartphones has changed educational contexts. The present study aimed to translate and validate the Smartphone and Learning Inventory Scale (SALI) for Chilean high school. Cultural adaptation was carried out with the authorization of the author, expert translation, and cognitive interviews. Then, a sample of 655 students aged 12 to 18 years was applied. In addition, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed, which validated a bifactorial structure composed of the factors Concentration (α=.803) and Telephone experience (α =.744). The fit indices were adequate: CFI =.946, TLI =.928, SRMR =.0461 and the RMSEA =.0649 with a 90% CI between.0467 and.0832. It is concluded that the SALI version for adolescents is a valid and reliable instrument to measure self-regulation of smartphone use, and its projection for use by educational authorities is discussed. © 2025, GTE-Educational Technology Group, University of the Balearic Islands.
