A Modulation Scheme for a Single-Phase AC/AC Matrix Converter
Keywords: matrix converter; modulation; single, phase matrix converter
Abstract
Single-phase matrix converters can serve as an interface for sharing power between a three-phase and a single-phase electrical system. However, to operate this topology using linear control techniques, a suitable modulation scheme is necessary. This paper analyses modulation schemes for the single-phase matrix converter, identifying two degrees of freedom that can be exploited to achieve the control objectives. Moreover, this article proposes to determine the duty cycles of the space-vector modulation by formulating and solving a linear programming problem. The simulation results show that the proposal leads to a lower total harmonic distortion of the output current, compared to a popular method found in the literature. © 2025 IEEE.
