Abstract

Matrix converters have gained significance in power conversion applications because of their ability to directly convert electrical currents without requiring energy storage components, thereby driving advancements in control strategies and prototype development. This work presents the design and construction of a 3 × 1 single-phase matrix converter (SPMC) prototype, which is validated using a Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) scheme to regulate the load current. The results obtained include both simulated and experimental data, providing a complete validation of the prototype. The experimental results show robust prototype performance, with a tracking error of about 4 % and a THD of 7 %, with the potential for further improvement through optimised filter tuning. © 2025 IEEE.
