Content Validation of the Chilean Version of the Survey Work-Home Interaction - Nijmegen Scale

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the content validity of the Survey Work-Home Interaction - Nijmegen (SWING) scale in its Chilean version for measuring work-family interaction among healthcare workers. Methods:A content validation study was conducted in two phases. First, ten experts with postgraduate, master’s, and/or doctoral training assessed the relevance and wording of the scale items. Second, ten healthcare professionals engaged in a focus group to analyze the clarity of the statements, the length of the questions, the adequacy of the response categories, the potential for resistance, and the overall duration of the questionnaire. Results: The experts rated the scale items favorably. The average content validity coefficient was 0.87 (95% CI: 0.70-0.96) for relevance and 0.92 (95% CI: 0.75-1.0) for wording, both above the recommended minimum of 0.71. Only one item showed values near the limit but it did not require elimination. The focus group considered the questionnaire clear, concise, and appropriate, with an average response time of nine minutes. No comprehension difficulties or resistance to the items were reported. Additionally, evidence of validity based on response processes emerged, supporting the consistency between participants’ responses and the construct measured. Conclusion: The Chilean version of the SWING scale showed adequate content validity evidence for assessing work-family inte-raction among healthcare professionals
