Multispecies ethnography in Colliguay: a living territory
Keywords: territory, environmental crisis, Colliguay, more-than-human anthropology, multispecies ethnography
Abstract
This multispecies ethnography focuses on the Colliguay territory in the Valparaíso region of Chile, exploring the everyday relationships between humans and nonhumans in a rural area marked by environmental, historical, and political crises. Using a sensitive and situated approach, the article analyzes how bodies, species, materials, and memories intertwine in a more-than-human territorial agency. The voices, gestures, and emotions of the human and nonhuman inhabitants provide the privilege of understanding how a way of life that challenges extractive modernity is constructed. The research is based on fieldwork, walks, conversations, and participant observation, giving rise to a narrative that questions ontological hierarchies and proposes a relational and affective perspective on territory. The article aims to contribute to debates on more-than-human anthropology and practices of territorial resistance rooted in everyday life
