Abstract
Several works in salmonid fishes have related the variation at simple enzyme coding loci and the multilocus heterozygosity with developmental homeostasis, measured through fluctuating asymmetry in bilateral characters. Association between genotype variation at the PGM-1* locus and growth rate during fresh water stage in a cultured strain of coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) has been found. Evidences in rainbow trout suggest that growth rate and developmental stability could be positively associated. The effect of variation at the PGM-1* locus on developmental stability in coho salmon was examined by comparison of fluctuating asymmetry among individuals with different genotype on the locus, within full-sib families. Not significant genotype or family effect on fluctuating asymmetry was found. Results suggest no association among PGM-1* variation and developmental stability in coho salmon.
