Mucocele-like lesions of the breast: Local experience and literature review Lesionces mucocele-like de la mama: Experiencia local y revision de la literatura
Abstract
Mucocele-like lesions of the breast are uncommon. They where first described by Rosen in 1986. Pathologically, they are defined as mucin filled cysts and extravasated mucin in the adjacent stroma, without inflammatory reaction. We present eight cases of mucocele-like lesions in six patients, emphasizing the clinical and radiological findings and features of the respective percutaneous and excisional biopsies. Considering their frequent association with high risk type lesions (4/8 = 50%) and also with ductal carcinomas in situ or mucinous carcinomas (1/7 = 14%), surgical excision is recommended to exclude malignancy. © 2007 Sociedad Chilena de RadiologÃa.
