Abstract

The present instrumental study examines the structural reliability and validity of the Chilean version of the Scale for Social Anxiety Detection (EDAS). The sample consisted of 1040 non clinic adolescents (ages between 13 and 18 years). The analysis of the validity indicated that in each sub-scale (Evitation, Anxiety degree, Interference) only one dimension explained more than the 40% of the variance. The coefficients of the reliability obtained in the study (Guttman-Cronbach alfa and Spearman-Brown) were high in all the subscales. No significant differences were found due to the differences between the genders, age or the interaction between gender and age. The only exception was the caused by differences of age in the subscales related to the Anxiety rate and Interference. In general, the results provide empirical evidence which supports the reliability and validity of the Chilean version of EDAS. The relationship between the EDAS and other similar instruments studied on the Chilean population is proposed to be evaluated. © International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology.
