Abstract

This study shows the first data from adapting The Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory for Children (SPAI-C) to a Chilean infant-juvenile population. We analyzed its psychometric properties in a study of 792 boys and girls between 10 and 14 years old. We present the first data of this adaptation as part of a line of research assessment: early detection and intervention in social phobic Chilean children and adolescents. The results obtained show adequate psychometric properties with a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0,892 and a factorial structure of four components that explains 45% of the total variance and is similar to the previous reported studies. The data show that the Chilean version of the SPAI-C is a valid and reliable measure of anxiety and social phobia in Chilean children and adolescents aged between 10 and 14 years. © 2009, Facultat de Psicologia Universitat de Barcelona.
