Abstract

ABSTRACT | Placing ourselves in the present scenario of what has been called a “generalized mobility” of society, in this article we address the importance of proximity territory –home and neighborhood– as a supporting ground to deal with the strategic tensions brought about by social mobility. Based on a qualitative approach, this research, carried out in three areas of the city of Santiago, Chile, led us to postulate that despite the increase in mobility, the inhabitants of the city identify with and preserve the symbolic and a!ective ties and practices that take place at the home, the block and the neighborhood. "us, in the case of the city of Santiago, Chile, it clearly appears the importance of construing daily mobility from those attachments weaved in territorial proximity.
