Abstract
Nowadays, the dissemination of science by means of research articles in indexed journals is no longer an option, and it has turned into a necessity for those who are beginning or are devoted to research. However, researcher training in Chile is just beginning, and those who, pursue graduate studies seldom receive formal instruction on the writing of scientific research articles (SRA), on a peer review system, or on the prospective journals to which they might submit their manuscripts. Considering the above, the objective of this article is to describe and classify a series of errors detected in the composition of SRAs written by a group of Universidad de La Serena graduate students who participated in an intervention, the purpose of which was to took at how they produce this specialized scientific genre. The intervention took place in 20 three-hour weekly workshop sessions, where the participants wrote, edited collectively, and re-wrote the structural parts of a research article. It was found that the participants' compositions contain general writing errors and genre-specific errors.
