Abstract

Humor sense has been identified as being relevant in effective teaching, but has not been well studied in specific contexts of teaching and learning. The Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale was developed in the USA and has been adapted and validated in Spain for the general population. This paper presents its adaptation and factorial validation in a sample of 431 Chilean teachers, to facilitate the incorporation of humor sense in teachers study. Two well interpretable factors were found, corresponding to two reliable subscales: humoristic competence (α=0,91) and rejection of humor (α=0,81); the overall reliability was α=0,89. The multidimensional structure of the instrument is discussed. It is concluded that this reformulation of the scale has adequate characteristics for its use in research with Chilean teachers.
