Abstract

This paper preliminarily reviews the progress made in the research project entitled “Thepluralism in the political agenda of written digital media in the V, VIII and Metropolitanregions”. Its purpose is to present a theoretical and methodological framework to address media pluralism considering Chile’s communications systems, the media’s political agenda, itseditorial lines, and the perceptions of agents involved in this field. Considering this aim, firstly it discusses briefly the concept of media pluralism with regard to both political science andcommunication studies, including the following concepts: media freedom, media diversity, media participation and the communication power distribution. Secondly, different types of indicators regarding media pluralism are presented. Finally, some indicators for measuring this concept are proposed
