Investigating the nature of lithium rich stars
Abstract
Lithium is a fragile element, which is easily destroyed in the stellar interior. The existence of lithiumrich giants still represents a challenge for stellar evolution models. Furthermore, recently a new class of Li-rich dwarf stars has also been identified in globular clusters. We propose a program which aims at understanding the mechanisms which enhance the lithium abundances in the stellar atmospheres, ranging from the main sequence, to the lower and upper red giant branch.
