Abstract

Introduction: HIV related oral lesions are a pretty common, present between 30% to 80%of patients, and the can be found in early stages oh HIV infection. However, published studies agree that the frecquency of HIV related oral lesions has been significantly reduced with the introduction of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART). Objective: To determine the frequency of oral lesions en HIV/AIDS patients in the Carlos Van Buren Hospital of Valparaiso. Material and Method: Transversal Descriptive Study in 74 patients of both gender, over 18 years old, with serological diagnosis of HIV, between 1986 and 2009. A clinical evaluation of the oral cavity was done. Oral lesions were diagnosed according to the OMS Manual for epidemiological studies of oral lesions related to HIV/AIDS. Results: Oral lesions frequency was 37,8% (n=28). The most frequency oral lesions were: Linear gingival erythema, 12,16%; Angular cheilitis, 6,75% and Erithematous candidiasis with Melanotic hiperpigmentation, both with 4,05%. Conclusion: A low frequency of oral lesions were seen compared to other previous studies. Linear gingival erythema and Angular cheilitis were the most frequency oral lesions. A statistically significant association was found between oral lesions versus CD4 cell count and occupation. Oral lesions presence was independent of HAART and viral load.
