Abstract

The city block that hosts the main campus of the Universidad Alberto Hurtado is a fragment of a precious part of Chilean history. From the early colonial days until its current stand in the city, these houses have witnessed distinct phases that include a religious period, a high-class residential development, a deterioration associated with an institutional reorientation of the neighborhood up to its recovery by the University. However, this book suggests, there a message inscribed in the material grounds of this city quarter: integration, spirituality and knowledge, and those have prevailed over time.
