Chemical induction of androsterility in Viola sp hybridization

Peñaloza, P; Paredes, Y

Abstract

In many species with hermafrodite flowers hybrid seed harvest is done manually; this is a problem in Viola sp., that could be solved by genetic or by chemical androsterility. Gibberelic acid, ethylene and iron nitrate are known for their polen reducing capacity. The results discourage the use of these chemicals, because polen inactivation is partial in the gineceus may be injured.
