Abstract

To compare the effects of a 12-weeks strength training versus power training program on the maximum isometric grip strength of older women. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental study - descriptive random. The sample consisted of 28 women with an average age of 66.6 ± 8.44. Protocol for determination of physical performance characteristics were: maximal isometric right hand and left hand isometric force maximum force. The protocol of anthropometric variables are age, weight, height and BMI. Statistical analysis Standard statistical methods to calculate means and standard deviations were used.Statistical significance was accepted at p <0.05 for all analyzes. All data were analyzed using the statistical package STATISTICA (version 8.0, StatSoft, Inc., Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA). Results: The results of this study demonstrate that a physical training program twelve weeks, applied to elderly women past menopause does not increase (p> 0.05) the maximum isometric strength of flexor right hand or left. Conclusion: The null hypothesis is true for variables hand grip strength, indicating that the training plan 12 weeks of strength and power has no significant effect on maximal isometric force
