Abstract

This research was focused on the analysis of the effect of Thompsen anisotropy in determining velocities from well logs in Maracaibo Lake, for what was needed: to determine a pseudolog of S velocity from P velocity, elastic parameters ( and !) and then the factor " of Thompsen anisotropy which was calculated from the above parameters, finally the P-wave velocity incorporating the anisotropy factor " and evaluate the behavior of the resultant velocities. were analyzed the logs from three wells in Block III, in East of South Central area of Maracaibo Lake and was available sonic log (P-wave velocity), Gamma Ray, Density and Resistivity in ranges between 10,995 and 14,220 feet deep, producing accumulations of sand through B and C. The data were processed through a series of algorithms implemented in Office Excel and pseudologs P-wave velocity generated without considering the effect of anisotropy and other considering their effect on software Surfer 9.0, obtaining that they consider the effect of Thompsen anisotropy showed significantly greater highlight of the spotlight on those that do not consider this effect. It was concluded that incorporation of the anisotropy factor " proposed by Thomsen has a beneficial effect on the determination of velocities, what was evidenced in a better resolution of the pseudologs, helping to highlight the different reflectors to improve the identification of sites
