Abstract

The circulation of news, objects and texts from the New World to Europe contributed to the increase of the knowledge of nature. This transference of knowledge between the Americas and Europe is an essential fact to be considered when studying the contribution of the Jesuits to the Natural History as a discipline. In this context, the travel of Jesuits’ bezoar stones was an example of the circulation of an object of nature from the Americas to Europe. This article analyses the relation between Jesuits and the bezoar stones in the context of Jesuits travels during XVII Century. The transmission of information and the exchange of this object is another way Jesuits contributed to the development of natural histories in the New World.
