Abstract

This paper aims to orgnize knowledge acout the natural history of El Yali wetland system, discussing the geological origins of the basin, describe the most important natural phenomena that have affected and identify the major human interventions that explain its current configuration. The natural history is constructed from a comprehensive literature review. It can see the importance of glacio-eustatic, tectonic, sedimentary and anthropogenic factors. This system is vulnerable to contemporary climate change, whitch together with anthropogenic pressures threaten their long-term sustainability.
