Abstract

Processes experienced by subjects and the srategies they develop to cope with their living conditions are issues thet remain poorly addressed in educational research in Chile. From this perpsective, this article provides some background to an on-going study of educational-labour pathways of Young chilean students. The material presented here originates from a 5 year longitudinal study that aims at giving an account of the aspirations and decisions of students from different socio-economic levels, rationales or social logics that define such decisions and educational-employment pathways four years after graduation. This perspective provides a base of complementary information for an informed discussion about the limits and posibilities offered by the current expansión of the education market and its capacity to attain higher levels of social equity.
