Abstract

The opening contribution, by the We Are Movers collective, is the creative outcome of an arts-based collaboration between migrants from the Helen Bamber Foundation and Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network in London, and a group of researcher-activists at UCL. Established as a way of bridging ‘academic research and the lived experiences of migration’, the project and accompanying museum exhibition present the collective’s response to mainstream depictions of migrants and to concepts such as integration; collective members have also lobbied for universities such as UCL to develop proactive and meaningful institutional responses in support of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
