Abstract

Spatial changes, temporal variability and trends of the coastal position were studied from Landsat 8 OLI satellite images, where coastlines were taken at the satellite revisit dates with a RTK-GNSS in situ. Also, the characteristics of the surface sediments in the direct sub-environments of the beaches were analyzed. Eleven cross-sections of the shore were established to quantify sedimentary patterns and observed coastal variation over time. Preliminary results indicate RMS values less than 5 m, between the in situ measured shorelines and those extracted from SHOREX -Shoreline extraction-algorithm. The cyclical and short-term changes registered in the selected beaches for this analysis allowed to analyze the width variability of different beach segments, suggesting a differential behavior through the coastal axis. This represents a correct approach to systematic and efficient revision of the chilean Central Coast.
