Social work and the "Chilean October". The questioning vocation of our professional history for the disciplinary challenges of the present
Abstract
Objective. The article aims to carry out a theoretical and analytical reflection on Chilean Social Work and the challenges it faces regarding the special moment that the South American country is currently experiencing since October 2019, in which a cycle of confrontations within Chilean society starts. Methodology.To answer this question, the article makes use of the results of the author's doctoral research to explore the historical experience of Reconceptualization based on historiographic keys extracted from the concept of history in Walter Benjamin. Results. There are explosive moments in our professional history that offer analytical keys to critically approach the challenges of the disciplinary present. Conclusions. The questioning vocation in certain historical periods, together with the commitment to the popular sectors, constitute two key elements to face the challenges of Chilean Social Work in the present.
