Historia, producción y continuidad de la Sociedad de Folklore Chileno (1909-2008)

Abstract
The current paper describes the history, production and intellectual continuity of the Chilean Folklore Society (Sociedad de Folklore Chileno), an academic organization founded in 1909, pioneer of the studies of tangible and intangible folklore in Chile. Our main argument argues that the production of this Society had continuity through various magazines, bequeathing a concept of folklore that mixes English and German tradition about the “popular knowledge” (tangible and intangible, respectively). First, our paper offers a description of the conformation of the Society, and then reviews the concept of folklore that emerges from its first founding years. Subsequently, the continuity of its publications is analyzed, considering the productivity of its members over time. At last, in a final section, some conclusions about its contribution to research on Chilean folklore are outlined, as well as the visibility of an ethnographic network of collaborators.
