Abstract

POLITICAL HUMOUR, SUFFRAGE AND WOMEN: THE LOOK OF TOPAZE IN THE 1935 REGIONAL ELECTIONS In 1835 women could vote for the first time in Chile, during the regional elections. The analysis of this historical conquest at the sight of female social representations circulating Topaze’s pages, is the matter of this investigarion. The structure of this study begins by a historical review of the satirical magazine, making its way into the description of the proccess of female political emancipation, prior to the analyzed date. The most important body is the review of the Topaze magazines from the years 34-35; specifically the comunicational units where women representations -may it be as gender or singular subjects- and the topic of the elections converge.
