Abstract

The main objective of this research study is to assess the impact of female participation in scientific production. Data of 63 Chilean universities in the period 2009-2019 are retrieved from the Chilean Consejo Nacional de Educación (CNED, 2020). A fixed-effects econometric model with panel data is applied. The results show that gender inequality persists in university student enrollment and in university academic staff, which negatively affects scientific productivity. It is concluded that if universities develop equality policies to improve female student enrollment and participation in academic staffs, an increase in scientific productivity would be observed.
