Abstract

Intragroup bias is the tendency of members of one group to value their own group more positively with respect to another group. To explore this fact, an investigation was proposed with the aim of validating the Interethnic Ingroup Bias Questionnaire (SEI) designed by Rojas, Garcia and Navas (2003). For this, 813 Peruvian and Colombian immigrants residing in Chile (52% Colombian) were surveyed with this scale. The factor structure was analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis techniques. In addition, the results were related to the Ethnic Identity scale (Smith, 2002). A good data fit for the two-factor model originally proposed was obtained, as well as a correlation with Ethnic Identity. Finally, the analyses showed that the Intragroup Bias questionnaire has adequate psychometric properties, with evidence of validity and reliability for the evaluation of intragroup bias in the Latin American migrant population residing in Chile.
