Abstract

The design of Medium Access Control protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks has been one of the alternatives proposed to minimize energy consumption in this type of network. Duty Cycling is a widely used technique in the design of Medium Access Control protocols since by controlling the on and off radio it is possible to reduce energy consumption. This article introduces a Duty Cycling-based Medium Access Control protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks that considers battery information to adjust Duty Cycling sleep time. The proposed Duty Cycling is based on Process-Stacking Multiplexing Access Protocol with the difference that the proposed protocol calculates the remaining energy in the battery using a different approach, thus allowing the use of State of Charge estimation algorithms. The results obtained demonstrate how the sleep time windows can be adjusted according to the requirements of the sensor nodes and the amount of energy available in the battery.
