Abstract

The situation of displacement of the Mapuche language has motivated public policies focused on its revitalization. However, a valid instrument is not yet available to measure the degree of proficiency in Mapudungun among children. In this paper are to present Mapudunguken a questionnaire for oral proficiency in Mapudungun and to describe its construction. 99 schoolchildren (6 to 11 years old) belonging to rural schools in the La Araucanía region participated in the study. The results show low levels of performance. The reliability indices were acceptable, and based on these data, it is concluded that the instrument fulfills the necessary conditions to assess oral proficiency e in Mapudungun.
