'Behavioural and physiological responses of the surf clam Mesodesma donacium to brine discharges'

Abstract

Clam survival was unharmed by brine discharges, but sub-lethal effects were found. Clam burial success was unharmed by undiluted and diluted saline brine. Sub-lethal effects included extended clam burial times. After a recovery period clam burial times returned to pre-brine exposure values. After a recovery period, clams in undiluted brines exhibited higher metabolic rates.
