Abstract
In 2019, the Monitor of Use of Lethal Force in Latin America published a first study that constructed and compared a series of indicators to evaluate the use of lethal force by State security agencies. The study included five countries in the region: Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, and Venezuela. All of them were countries where there was evidence of possible abuses. The study sought to produce a common methodology, common indicators and comparable data that would permit the analysis and understanding of the use of lethal force in these countries. This new study builds on the efforts of the last and incorporates three new countries: Chile, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Our objective, once again, was to develop common indicators and a shared methodology to monitor lethal force in the participating countries in a way that would allow international comparisons.
