Abstract

The objective is to analyze the representation of the migrant population in disinformation identified by 14 Chilean fact-checking platforms, between 2018 and 2022. The sample is characterized according to dates, sources, media, strategies, frames and discursive axes, through an analysis of content, framing and discourse in 93 cases. The results show that there is misleading (42%) and fabricated content (39%), with framing of rights (33%) and security (28%), along with discursive axes such as "invaders" (34%), "criminals" (25%) and "illegal" (23%). Likewise, it is found that they circulate in social networks (66%) and national media (27%), increasing in electoral periods and being issued by alleged witnesses (31%), political parties (20%), government and institutions (18%). This research reveals the confluence of actors and discourses in the disinformation on migration in Chile, warning that it could be a generalized strategy of disincentive to human mobility that uses falsehood as a resource.
