Abstract

This study aims to examine the suppression exerted by op-timism on intolerance to uncertainty when it is related to purpose in life. To establish this possible suppression rela-tionship, the well-known protecting role of optimism on mental health is taken as an initial reference. To approach this proposal, a cross-sectional study was conducted on col-lege population to analyze the association between these variables. The study was done on a sample of 650 tertiary education students from different universities. Results show the suppressive effect of optimism on intolerance to uncer-tainty when its influence on purpose in life is examined. This variable is highly interesting for this population since it directs its efforts to the development of a well-defined life project.
