Feminist Madness to "Mad Feminism": Towards a Transformation of Gender Policies in Contemporary Mental Health

Abstract

This article analyzes the political and cultural context in which the movement of ex patients or survivors of psychiatry emerges around the emancipatory promise of second wave feminism in the field of madness. Subsequently, it develops a questioning towards the reformist perspectives of equal treatment that are expressed in the field of feminist therapy as a neoliberal device that offers individual solutions in the therapeutic market. Finally, the contributions of "mad feminism" are described to enrich the approaches of gender justice in contemporary mental health, based on the mutual support between women and the recovery of feminist activism as an expression of well-being and self-care.
