Abstract

The present article carries out a historic reconstruction of antipsychiatry as a wide movement of exposure or opposition, alternatives and resistance towards a conventional perspective that institutional psychiatry has expressed in the social and political field.Throughout the historical analysis of various collectives and social movements, investigators, academics and intellectuals with a critical orientation, a brief and schematic collection of the main historical cycles which has presented antipsychiatry as a counter-hegemonic movement is established, accentuating a few of its main postulates, highlighting under what conditions these initiatives have existed and what consequences and implications they have had in the social area. Finally, a provisional appraisal of its conceptual tools is established in accordance to the concepts of network opposition and political alliances, as well as critical and radical perspectives that this movement presents as a political horizon.
