Abstract

Strating from the hypothesis that the Aysén region has an important and relevant geological heritage of scientific value, this work accounts for the first regional scale inventory of geosites in Chile. The working method followed the guidelines of the Global Geosites proyect promoted by the IUGS. Consequently, a summary of the regional geological history and a proposal of geological Framework were made and used as a guideline to select relevant geosites. As a result, over 180 geosites were selected and 51 were characterized in detail. Among the last mentioned, 21 were postulated, accepted and today are part of the inventory of geosites led by the SGCh. This fact shows the value of the regional geoheritage.
