Polyacrylic Acid and Its Derivativessupported Catalyst

Siddiqui, Jamal A

Abstract

Polyacrylic acid has recently provided enormous opportunities in the polymer industry by supporting several types of catalyst. Acrolein obtained from the oxidation of propylene is taken for formation of acrylic acid and its derivatives. Acrylates are commonly employed in the production of emulsions and solution polymers. The emulsion polymerization method produces large production of polymers in a form that can be used in a different field of application. Esters are made from polyacrylic acid and its derivatives. Super-absorbent poly acrylic acid and its derivatives are employed in water treatment, detergent and dispersants, and also use a high amount of raw materials (80–85 percent). In the production of industrial coatings, acrylate solution polymers are used. The polymeric products all have great chemical and environmental resistance, as well as appealing strength properties. Acrylic acid and its esters react rapidly with electrophilic, free-radical, and nucleophile agents. The catalytic support of polyacrylic acid and its derivatives, as well as their applications in many fields, will be discussed in this chapter.
