Polymer-based biosensors for medical applications

Abstract

Immobilization of biologically active molecules, enabling high sensitivity and short response time, is the key feature of the best sensor, and it can be achieved by using polymer-based materials due to some unique properties of polymers. In this regard, conducting polymers (CPs) are a special class of polymers possessing the delocalization of pi electrons in their backbone, which are responsible for the enhancement of CPs’ properties for their use in biomedical fields such as biosensors. Here we present the biosensors formulated by using various types of CPs. As the heart of a sensor is an active layer. hence the active layer, and working principle of biosensors is also deliberated with various types of CP-based biosensors.
