Abstract

Although research on academic work and gender dynamics has grown lately in Latin America, this has occurred less from an articulation that considers the activity and practice of feminized management within the academy. The understanding of the university begins from the framework of academic capitalism, but considering a gender perspective. Through a qualitative systematic review that considered recent international research on the work of academic women and the gendered university, categories were explored, ranging from the equality approach within university spaces to those studies that address the effects of neoliberalism and academic capitalism in the careers of women. One of the main conclusions is that the care work of women academics-traditionally circumscribed to the private sphere-is replicated in the university both with respect to their male counterparts and with students, especially from their predominant insertion in university management tasks.
