Abstract

Moving coil-type dynamic loudspeakers are the most used in professional audio applications. However, the literature does not comprehensively evaluate their electroacoustic and thermal behavior, and it is often scarce or incomplete. Therefore, the present research aims to perform a comprehensive study of the behavior of a dynamic moving coil loudspeaker of the overhung type that reproduces low frequency based on measuring the loudspeaker of the electrical input impedance. The research was carried out in five stages: i) Measurement of electrical impedance and obtaining of electroacoustic parameters; ii) Simulation of electro-mechanical-acoustic behavior; iii) Measurement of frequency response and harmonic distortion; iv) Measurement of thermal behavior; and v) Obtaining the thermal linear model. The most relevant results show the importance of measuring the electrical impedance at a voltage level higher than 0 dBu and modeling the inductance losses at high frequency; the usefulness of measuring the frequency response in near and far fields in non-anechoic conditions; the increase of the harmonic distortion as the frequency of the audio band decreases, and; the excellent estimation of the linear model, except for the beginning of the cooling of the voice-coil. © 2024 The Authors.
