Abstract

This paper aims to study the relationship between direct aid requests to local governments and political attitudes. We use LAPOP's AmericasBarometer survey for a regional sample of Latin America. We posit that support for the political system is positively related to people's willingness to make direct aid requests of municipalities. Furthermore, we show that the greater the perception of the quality of the services, the lower the probability of requesting local aid.
