Abstract

This article focuses on the narratives of past and present neighborhood experiences of women from different ages and family backgrounds, obtained in the context of a field work carried out in 2019 and 2020 in three neighborhoods of Valparaíso (Chile). Between dispossession and resistance, their experiences stress the dominant idea of neighborhood as a shared space and of support for the construction of collective identity. Based on the analysis of their stories, the article explores the ideas of neighborhood recuperation and neighborhood identity from a critical gender perspective. © 2023, Universidad Austral de Chile.
