Nivel de Burnout, características demográficas y laborales en empleados de comercio de Chillán, Chile
Abstract
Introduction: Burnout Syndrome (SB) is the physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion leading to a gradual loss of motivation. Over time, it can induce feelings of inadequacy and failure due to the constant demand for energy and resources at work. It’s for this reason that the objective is To determine the level of burnout, demographic characteristics, and work-related aspects in retail employees from Chillán, Chile. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional quantitative study involving 152 retail employees in the city of Chillán. The data were collected using the “Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS)” questionnaire and the “Demographic and Work-related Questionnaire.” Results: 87.5% of retail workers exhibited a burnout level ranging from moderate to high. Regarding weekly working hours, 56.6% of respondents worked between 23-45 hours per week, and 29.6% worked more than 45 hours. Within the sample, 63.8% were aged between 18 and 44, and 59.2% were women. Conclusions: Employees in Chillán’s retail sector tended to display signs of Burnout Syndrome, with the additional impact of demographic and work-related variables, further compromising the workers. This was evident in their performance and exhaustion across all dimensions.
