Challenges for Competence-Oriented Health-Enhancing Physical Activity A Report on Activities of the Physical Activity-related Health Competence Network

Abstract

Physical inactivity is a widespread phenomenon worldwide. In this regards, the World Health Organization's objective is a significant reduction, for which measures to improve environmental and system-related conditions are just as necessary as the enhancement of the individual behavior potential. In recent years, the promotion of health-related physical activity has gained an increasing competence orientation, which, for example, led to the physical activity-related health competence (PAHCO) model. This model assumes that movement competence, control competence, and self-regulation competence are important prerequisites for the maintainance of a physically active lifestyle. This paper first reports on the establishment of a network with actors from German-speaking countries who are currently working with the PAHCO model or the related physical literacy approach. The subsequent focus turns to two kick-off events where future challenges were identified for competence-oriented health-enhancing physical activity in research and practice. Three important topics were identified for the future: "Challenges at the conceptual level", "Challenges in the area of measurement methods" and "Aspects of intervention and mediation".
