Abstract

We systematize archaeological data about ceramic periods on the Valdivia river basin. We describe and discuss the prehispanic and early hispanic historic periods of this wide land. Using the settlement patterns approach we suggest relations between different types of settlements on specific localities. We discuss cultural continuities and discontinuities among ceramic periods and with the Archaic times.
