Abstract

During the last decades, Citizenship Education has gained relevance in the educational field since it favors the preparation of students for life in democracy. However, to achieve this objective, it is necessary that teachers have the appropriate training to be able to communicate it in the educational context. Therefore, in this article, we analyze the most recent research on the subject in initial teacher training at a global level. The PRISMA method was used to carry out a systematic review of the literature, the databases were SciELO, Scopus and WoS, a total sample of 191 articles was obtained, after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 24 were selected. The results describe the characteristics of the research analyzed, the methodological strategies employed by the various research groups and the main findings of the studies examined. It is concluded that the teaching and learning strategies contained in the various curricular activities of initial teacher training are crucial for future professional practice, since they enable teachers to build knowledge on Citizenship Education from their own training experience.
