Investigation of flash sintering effects on the NiO-GDC nanocomposites synthesized by one-step method
Abstract
The influence of the composition of nickel oxide-gadolinium doped ceria (NiO-GDC) on the onset conditions for flash sintering was investigated. The lowest flash onset temperature was achieved for 50:50 wt.% of NiO:GDC in the three electric fields applied (50, 70, and 100V/cm) and laid between 126 and 195 degrees C, which was slightly lower than pure NiO and much lower than GDC. The results obtained were differed from those reported in the literature, where the flash onset temperature in a ceramic composite system reached the lowest value for the pure and most conductive phase. The electrical properties and microstructure of NiO-GDC are discussed as responsible for the discrepancy.
