Abstract

This paper focuses on the application of Collaborative-Online-International Learning (COIL) methodlogy in courses on optical-fiber communication, specifically on optical amplification, between undergraduate and postgraduate students from Chile and France. We describe the context of our project, the design of the proposed collaborative activities (during the synchronous sessions and the preparatory work) and the assessment during and after the sessions. As a result, all the general- and targeted- learning outcomes were fulfilled. A high level of interaction between students from different locations was observed, as communication and technical skills were constantly required. Feedback concerned longer sessions, scheduling (related to different time zones) and language improvement. © 2025 IEEE.
